It's a strange situation, but all of this sure sounds like we are probably not getting an Outriders 2, despite Square Enix making it clear they are retaining the IP after the recent sale of Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and other properties. This isn’t a “failure” like Cyberpunk 2077 releasing an expansion and extending support because I mean, that game sold 18 million copies, and has absolutely made a profit. But again, that seems like a pretty big risk, as does continuing to devote time and resources to a game that they admit seems like it may never make its costs back. It seems weird to have developed such a large expansion for a game that isn’t making a profit, but perhaps the hope is that the paid expansion could be enough to send it over the edge into profitability. But on People Can Fly’s side, despite getting no royalties, they mention many times in the new report that continuing to support Outriders is one of their main priorities going forward, and the game is about to launch a major expansion, Worldslayer, out in June.
